FAQs
What can I learn in the shop?
First, WELCOME! Metalsmithing is a lot like paper crafts with scissors and a glue gun, but with slightly different tools. Each project is planned to include the the torch, the rolling mill, disc cutters, dapping dies, and all of the hand tools. Practice makes perfect, so some steps we’ll practice on copper and then make it in silver and some steps we’ll just jump right in. You will leave with a basic understanding of how Metalsmiths work AND you’ll have a new pair of earrings or a pendant to wear!
Do students have to buy a lot of tools and materials?
No, my shop is fully stocked with hand tools, power tools, and two torches for soldering. I also have kits for beginner classes (included in tuition). If you wear readers to see up close, bring them, but I have a visor for those of us who need a little help too.
What if I get sick or need to reschedule?
Contact me as soon as possible, I would rather you enjoy your experience than suffer through it and expose others if you are ill. If you have a schedule conflict and there’s about 5 days to fill your spot, I would be happy to reschedule. No refunds for last minute cancellations or no-shows.
Where is the shop?
My shop is located at 310 Railroad, Loveland, Colorado. I am in Artworks Center for Contemporary Art. The doors will probably be locked when you arrive, please call 970-227-2345 when you get here and I will guide you to my studio. Our building has 28 studios, a Gift Shop, and a Gallery.
How many students can attend?
For metalsmithing classes, the workshops have room for 3 students. I do have projects that can accommodate a team building or bridal party or a workshop on location. Please inquire about those projects.
Is metalsmithing dangerous?
Yes, it can be. Tool safety will be covered, and class is small for this reason. This special attention is much safer than larger classes. Also, because of the nature of power tools, long hair must be tied back and no loose cuffs, fringe or ties, no scarves or long jewelry.
What are the payment/refund policies?
Secure your spot by paying for your class as soon as possible, this can be done via my website. If students are late, that portion of class will be forfeited. Full refunds are available 10 days prior to class for any reason. If a student misses a class, no refund will be given. www.JCMilnerArtworks.com or Venmo Jennie-Milner.
