Beginning Metalsmithing - one on one lessons with Jennie
Week 1: 3 hour class. Chain-making! We will work with hand tools manipulating wire in a million different ways. We’ll solder jump rings together & I will introduce you to the basic tools that every metalsmith needs. (3 hours)
Week 2: Textures, hammers, sheet metal… Oh my! This session will be dedicated to textures (stamping, hammering, tooling, flex shaft bits, and rolling mill). (3 hours)
Week 3: Sawing, drilling, more textures, rivets 3 ways (cold connections), and die cutting with tools.
Week 4: Build a pendant or a ring and set a stone! Stone setting is the best part for most metalsmiths. Conquering this task is best done in a one-on-one setting with the instructor close at hand. I learned it in a class with 15 other students & I had to melt a fair amount of bezel wire to get the hang of it. You’ll see, week four is worth all the money you spend on this class and more.
Week 5: This class is reserved for unfinished projects to pull together into wearable art. We’ll use patinas and the tumbler for finishing. Some students will set their stones on this day, and other may not finish. It’s hard to tell how much instruction you will need, but there is always class by the hour with me for $35/hour.
Taking a metalsmithing class is a great way to open new avenues in your brain. Did you know that some memories cannot be accessed without some brain gymnastics to release them? Metalsmithing is one of the many ways to strengthen your most important muscle. Your hands might get stronger too!
All of the tools and materials will be provided during this class. Sterling silver has an extra fee depending on the daily price of silver (like lobster on the menu). LOL
When you book your 5 week session, you’ll pick Tuesdays/Thursdays/or Saturdays and either 9-12, 1-4 or 5-8PM. I will reach out to you to pick a start date. It’s best to have a week between classes for some home work.
This is a NEW class! Beginners will learn how to solder and shape wire into a flower shape AND punch a sterling silver flower out of sheet metal. Then, we’ll attach them to each other to create a pair of earrings or a pendant (chains not included).

I want to share my daily practice with you, but first we have to make our journal covers amazing!
Creating a groovy journal cover is like setting an intention to be more adventurous, observant, and creative this year. Let’s start the year off right with a new journal that you get to personalize.
We’ll start with mark making (marking up your first few pages of your sketchbook together. I’ll demo some of the marks I like to repeat & we’ll take turns sharing our marks with each other.
Then we’ll dive into decorating our book covers in a fun music filled supportive environment.
Sketchbooks, paint, and tools provided. Please wear paint clothes that you don’t care too much about. Bring a friend & start a buddy system for your creative growth.
There are only 6 spots in this class! Grab your spot Early.
In this class we will boil painting down to the most basic exercise of mark making. There’s no pressure to make a “thing.” We’ll talk about our inner critic and when that needling voice can enter the conversation between you and the paper. We’ll talk about how judgement can be a giant brick wall in the practice of expression. You will learn to tap into your experience and utilize your intuition.
Upcoming Class: February 12, 5 - 8PM

These earrings were some of my best sellers, I couldn’t make them fast enough. I’m sharing this design (and many other options) with you in this workshop. Beginners are encouraged to join this class!
Students will work with hand tools, sterling silver wire, soldering, and texture. These can be made with bi-metals or sterling silver (or both). Make them as long or as wide as you want. Hoops can face forward or to the side
There are lots of ways to make this earring your own unique version, with a smaller hoop, a large hoop, or multiple hoops. Also texture is a wonderful way to make this earring unique.
Bring a friend & make memories together!
